As spring ball kicks off today, the Michigan Wolverines have their full attention turned toward repeating as Big Ten
Champions in 2023…but that’s not all. At a recent basketball game in Ann Arbor, Michigan running back Blake
Corum took to the court and made a bold proclamation regarding the upcoming season.
“Man it feels good to be back!” Corum told the crowd at the Crisler Center. “We’re gonna win the national
championship and go down in history. That’s all I got. Go Blue!”
Not long ago, a statement like that from a Michigan player would have elicited laughter and mockery. Michigan
failed to compete for a national championship in the first six years of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure. The first six seasons
included no wins against Ohio State, no trips to Indianapolis to contend for a conference championship, and no
appearances in the NCAA football playoffs. During Harbaugh’s sixth season, the Wolverines finished with an
atrocious 2-4 record during the shorter COVID season, and it appeared that this would be the final straw for Jim
Harbaugh’s tenure at Michigan.

As it turned out, the 2020 season marked the end of Ohio State’s dominance in the Big Ten. The Michigan
Wolverines currently firmly control the conference, having defeated the Buckeyes in back-to-back seasons, winning
two consecutive Big Ten Championships, and making two consecutive berths in the College Football Playoff.
Now, as Michigan aims to make it three in a row in all of the aforementioned categories, the Wolverines have more
than enough returning talent to complete the task and bring a national championship back to Ann Arbor. In fact,
numerous Wolverines were recently named among the top 10 returning players in all of college football in their
positions. In total, eight Wolverines reached the PFF College Top-10 returning players list.
