If you watched “Untold: Swamp Kings” expecting an in-depth look at one of college football’s most storied programs,
you were likely disappointed. Netflix’s new four-part docuseries, which premiered Tuesday, delves at the Florida
Gators teams that won two titles between 2005 and 2010 under Coach Urban Meyer. The problem is – and most of
social media agrees – that it doesn’t delve far enough into the team dynamics beyond Meyer, Tim Tebow, Brandon
Spikes, and Brandon Siler’s opinions. This could easily be referred to as a glorified UF recruiting video.
The Gators’ roster contributed to their success in collegiate football. Consider this: Tebow, Aaron Hernandez, Cam
Newton, Riley Cooper, and the Pouncey twins have all worn the orange and blue at some point. That’s a lot of
personality to cope with, but the documentary made almost no note of it.
Hernandez’s time at Florida was condensed into a couple moments: once while discussing Florida’s strong 2007
recruiting class, and again when Tebow accepted responsibility for a bar fight involving the All-American tight end.
“I blame myself just as much for that,” Tebow said in the docuseries, portraying the incident as Hernandez harming
a man who made offensive “racist comments” at him. “I should’ve got him out easier, I should’ve got him out faster, I
should’ve done more.”
