While Williams’ statistics numbers may not accurately reflect his accomplishments, teammates saw his extra effort after practice and willingness to block when his number was not called.

“I was very thrilled to watch him and all of the plays he made during the postseason and the second part of the season. Everything he was doing didn’t surprise me because he was putting in so much effort,” veteran wideout Kalif Raymond told the team’s official website. “It was incredible to see how much effort he put in.

“I was like, ‘Dude, your distance during practice, after practice, and before practice has to be up there. It must be reaching some numbers. He put in the work while no one was looking.”

The former first-round draft pick delighted 49ers fans who had traveled from Detroit as he scampered 42 yards to give his club an early 7-0 lead.

Williams also recorded a three-yard touchdown reception and a contested 22-yard catch in the team’s season-ending loss on the road.

Jared Goff, Detroit’s senior signal-caller, stated that Williams was doing all possible to improve and grasp his responsibilities on each play.

With offensive coordinator Ben Johnson returning for another season, Williams’ role in the offense is expected to develop even more in 2024.
